(Over)Thinking of Your Pleasures approaches queerness and sensuality through speculative fiction and world-building. Borrowing from dreams and psychosis altercations, Lily Wai Brennan activates the space by inserting playfully suggestive sculptures to the gallery environment. Inspired by live-action children’s television shows and prop set design, this exhibition invites viewers to reconsider logic through brightly colored and softly textured objects.

(Over)Thinking of Your Pleasures was on view at LaVerne Kraus Gallery, Eugene, OR in early 2021. The exhibition consisted of four recent sculptures by Lily Wai Brennan that explored boundaries between props, the domestic, the functional, and the uncanny. These skews in form invite familiarity before threat, as uncertainty takes over. Humor washes over the unsureness of these objects’ lore.
